The SCC Medallion is awarded to a teacher who has given many years service to SCC activities.
We are delighted to tell you that the most recent recipient of the SCC Medallion is Teresa O'Leary from Crumlin College. Teresa has dedicated her time and effort to organising both the SCC Public Speaking and International Public Speaking events for students across the City of Dublin ETB.
Teresa was presented with her medallion on a special evening on the 10th May 2024.
Congratulations and thanks for all your time and effort.
Here's what Teresa had to say about her work with the SCC;
It was a great honour and a great surprise to have been selected for the Gold Medallion Award on Friday May 10th 2024.
I have been involved with the Sports and Cultural Council (SCC) for many years as a link teacher for Crumlin College of Further Education (CCFE). Over ten years ago I joined two committees one for what we called ‘Senior Public Speaking’ and at that time the second was called ‘The Nelson Mandela Cup’. The title of the latter changed over the years and is now called ‘Public Speaking for Students’ – where English is not the first language’
Senior Public speaking takes place in January each year and this consists of two competitions for students where English is the first language. The competition is divided into two competitions ‘Under and Over 25 years’. This is a very enjoyable afternoon for students from across all the CDETB Colleges who wish to take part. It is hosted in CCFE.
The competition for our International Students is held in February each year. This competition again is open to all our students across all CDETB Colleges but the competition is held in the ‘Teachers Club’ ‘Club Na Muinteoirí’ on Parnell Square D1. It gives students and their families an opportunity to visit a building they would not usually visit in the centre of Dublin.
I have to admit I am really proud each year of all the students that take part in all of the abovecompetitions. I prepare ‘Certificates of Participation’ for all competitors.
